Charlie Blair, retired Elementary School Educator at Ebenezer Middle School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in elementary education.
Being an educator was something Mr. Blair always wanted to do since he was a kid. He can remember coming home from school in 7th grade and he would round up all the little kids just starting school in kindergarten and hold class on the church steps. He did that until he left high school and joined the U.S. Air Force. All the kids in his neighborhood learned something about school from him. He would check report cards and make sure they had their homework. He kept them all busy and really enjoyed it. He loved every minute of his 28 years of serving in the U.S. Air Force as a Sergeant. He taught technical courses in the service and passed that knowledge down too. His passion was always to help kids be better, so he got all the education he needed to be a teacher and then a principal. Mr. Blair earned an AAS from the Community College of the Air Force in 1980. After serving in the military, he went back to school and earned an Associate of Arts from the University of South Carolina Sumter in 1988. From there, he received a Bachelor of Arts in education from Coastal Carolina College in 1989 and an MEd from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1995.
The highlight for Mr. Blair was when he received his Master’s Degree in Education because he worked hard for it. He wanted his mother to see him do it but unfortunately, she had passed away before she could see all he did with his life. Mr. Blair started his career at Lemira Elementary School as a teacher from 1989 to 1990. He then moved to High Hills Middle School as a teacher and remained on there until 1996. In 1996, Mr. Blair earned a position as an assistant principal at Lakewood High School. He then went to Mayewood Middle School in 1999 to become a principal. In 2001, he took the same position at St. John Elementary School. This led him to Ebenezer Middle School in 2002, where he remained as the principal until he retired in 2006. He was also an educator from 2004 to 2006 at the Brewing Academy. As a testament to his success, Mr. Blair has been inducted as a member of various esteemed organizations including, the National Education Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Association of Secondary School Principals to name a few.
