A graduate of the University of Utah, she earned a Bachelor of Science in 1971, a Master of Education in 1978, and a Doctor of Education in 1980. Dr. de Casal attributes her success to pure grit and determination taught by her immigrant grandparents’ stories of coming to America and their trials and many tribulations as non-English speaking persons in a new country. For her accomplishments in the field, Dr. de Casal has been the recipient of numerous accolades including the National Professional Woman of the Year in High Education, the Distinguished Educator Award from the Tennessee Department of Education, and the Service Award from the Education Law Association, among others.
