Title: Elementary School Educator
Location: Plainfield, New Jersey, United States
Hubert Reeder has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in elementary school education.
Mr. Reeder’s interest in education started when he was in the eighth grade and had a teacher who recognized his skills in the classroom. It wasn’t until he was in college that he met an English poetry professor that helped him sort out his goals and helped him to categorize what he was saying into poetry. He liked the ideas, the words and sound of poetry and came to the understanding that he could draw lines between reality in his compositions. It helped him to focus on real-life situations because poetry is so varying and means different things to different people. Mr. Reeder found enjoyment in researching and discovering more about the world around him through poetry. The highlight of his career thus far has been winning a worldwide poetry contest that ranked him as the top poet in the world.
Mr. Reeder prepared for his career in education by earning a Bachelor of Science from Rutgers University in 1988. He opted for a more hands-on approach to education, working early on as a youth team coordinator for the East Orange YMCA. He has also been a substitute teacher with the Plainfield Board of Education since 1994. Since 1997, he has served as the resident poet of the Plainfield Public Library. Furthermore, in 2001, Mr. Reeder joined the Plainfield YMCA as a recreation and fitness specialist. Through this work, he has enjoyed inspiring children to take challenges head-on.
In recognition of his work, Mr. Reeder has received many awards, including several Golden Poet Award from the World of Poetry. He was named Man of the Year from the African American Group in 1989 and that same year was named an honorary fellow of the International Biographical Association. Furthermore, he has received recognition as a Poet of Merit from the American Poetry Association, the Editor’s Choice Award from the National Library of Poetry, a Physical Fitness Award from the Boston Marathon and has been listed among Who’s Who in US Writers, Editors and Poets. To supplement his work, Mr. Reeder has certifications in math, literacy, English as a Second Language and reading. Looking toward the future, he endeavors to continue inspiring the youth of America and exploring his poetry and various artistic outlets.
