Dr. Patricia Dunlap has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in educational leadership.

Inspired by her family, many of which were educators, Dr. Dunlap decided to pursue the profession as well. She first pursued this dream by earning an Associate of Arts in elementary education from Kennedy-King College in 1976. She continued at Chicago State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in elementary education in 1978, and later a Master of Science in elementary education in 1998. In 2001, she received a Master of Arts in educational leadership from the institution, and in 2011, earned an EdD in educational leadership and supervision. To be able to best serve in and out of the classroom, Dr. Dunlap became certified as an intermediate/upper and primary teacher with endorsements in computer science, language arts, general science and social science. She also received a Type 75 educational leadership certificate to elevate her work.

Dr. Dunlap started teaching as an intermediate teacher at the Wentworth School from 1978 to 1982. She then continued teaching kindergarten at Grimes/Fleming School briefly until joining the faculty at the Harvard School in Chicago. In 2002, she became the Dean of Students at the institution. In addition, Dr. Dunlap has served as the chorus and music director for the Harvard School, a computer consultant for the First Baptist Church and a graduation coordinator for the Higgins Academy. In 1986, she was recognized for her work with the Ella Flag Young Award. She has also authored and composed several works, including “Start With Me,” “Just Have Faith,” “Is It Me” and “We’ve Got the Power.” In her career, she maintained professional affiliation with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Alliance of Black School Educators and Kappa Delta Pi.
