Sally Severino, MD, Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at the University of New Mexico, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychiatry and higher education.

Utilizing more than four decades of industry experience, Dr. Severino is a distinguished figure in the fields of psychiatry and higher education, having most recently served as a professor of psychiatry in the School of Medicine at the University of New Mexico from 1995 to 2000, when she ultimately attained emeritus status. Prior to this illustrious role, she served Cornell University Medical College as an assistant professor and associate professor of psychiatry between 1983 and 1995, where she began a pastoral counseling service in the department of psychiatry. She commenced her career as a teacher of English at the Walton Wittana Academy of Girls in Bangkok, Thailand, from 1958 to 1960.

Dr. Severino holds a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Wichita State University, a Master of Arts from the Teachers College at Columbia University, and a Doctor of Medicine from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. She is a certified psychoanalyst through the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research.

An honorary faculty member of Alpha Omega Alpha, Dr. Severino has accrued myriad accolades throughout her career. The recipient of the Eric Hoffer Award for her book “Sacred Desire,” which she cites as a highlight of her career, she has also been presented with a Presidential Award from the American College of Psychoanalysts, a John J. Weber Prize from the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, and a Wholeness of Life Award from Hospital Chaplaincy, Inc., of New York Hospital. Notably, she has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who of American Women.
